Course description:
Students will survey the development and significance of American History through the study of topics, events and figures–beginning with the expeditions of Columbus through the American Civil War and the period known as Reconstruction.
Students will analyze significant, historical events from a social, political and economic perspective- as well as understand how they have shaped the past and affected the present.
Students will conduct themselves as historians and seek out ways to apply this knowledge in a current and global setting.
Learning objectives/outcomes:
Students will employ various tools in learning to understand the way in which our Nation’s past is affecting our current, national identity on the world stage. Students will acquire and improve upon the use of skills such as analysis, critical thinking, synthesis, argumentation, literacy, self-efficacy, etc.
